Welcome back adventurers! This update is an absolute beast - a brand new quest, a sprawling map expansion, an in-game music player, and a whole heap of reworks and quality of life. Grab a cup of tea (or a swampwater, we don't judge), and let's dive in!

Waterfall Quest

The long-awaited Waterfall Quest is now live! This classic quest is a fantastic introduction to the world of MineScape, offering newer players an exciting adventure with a hefty pile of experience as a reward - no skill requirements, no combat, just wits and a little bit of swimming.

Speak with Almera in her house just north of Baxtorian Falls to begin your journey to recover the legendary treasure of King Baxtorian.

Waterfall Quest

Quest Rewards:

  • 1 Quest Point
  • 13,750 Strength experience
  • 13,750 Attack experience
  • 2 Diamonds
  • 2 Gold Bars
  • 40 Mithril Seeds
  • Access to Baxtorian Falls cavern

Map Expansion

The Waterfall Quest also marks the opening of the Baxtorian Falls map expansion! This new area is filled with lush landscapes, hidden secrets, and a stack of fresh content to explore. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just starting out, Baxtorian Falls has something for everyone.

Baxtorian Falls

Ancient Cavern

Hidden beneath the crashing waters of Baxtorian Falls lies the Ancient Cavern - a dark, mysterious underground area packed with new monsters for mid to high level players to sink their teeth into. Dive into the whirlpool (don't worry, you've done worse) and discover what lurks below. Requirement: Partial completion of the Barbarian Firemaking section of the Barbarian Training with Otto Godblessed outlined below.

Ancient Cavern

New monsters include:

  • Brutal Green Dragons - bigger, meaner cousins of their overworld counterparts
  • Mithril Dragons - notorious for their rare dragon full helm drops
  • Waterfiends - excellent Slayer task fodder with great drops

Barbarian Training

Barbarian Training with Otto Godblessed

Barbarian Fishing

The legendary Otto Godblessed has set up shop at his secluded grotto just south of Baxtorian Falls. Have a chat with him to learn the ancient art of Barbarian Fishing - a faster, more rewarding way to fish leaping trout, salmon and sturgeon, with bonus Strength and Agility experience while you're at it.

Barbarian Fishing with Otto Godblessed

Separately we've also added Big Net Fishing to coastal areas, a passive way to haul in a mixed bag of fish - with a chance at landing a Big Bass or a Casket containing some tasty loot.

Barehanded Fishing

If you've got 55 Fishing and 35 Strength, Otto can also teach you to ditch the harpoon entirely. Barehanded Fishing lets you catch tuna, swordfish, and shark using nothing but your arm as bait - equal speed to a regular harpoon, but with a small bonus in Strength experience on every catch. A true barbarian needs no tools.

Barbarian Firemaking

With 35 Firemaking, Otto will teach you to light fires using a bow instead of a tinderbox. Simply use a bow on some logs to get started - certain log types even grant bonus experience when burned this way. Completing this section is also required to enter the Ancient Cavern, making it an essential unlock for anyone looking to tackle Mithril Dragons.

Barbarian Farming

Otto doesn't just fish and make fire - he's got green fingers too. With 15 Farming, he'll teach you two handy passive farming upgrades:

  • Bare-handed planting - plant seeds directly without a seed dibber. No more scrambling around for a tool.
  • Pot-smashing - after planting a sapling, your character automatically smashes the empty plant pot rather than leaving it cluttering up your inventory.

Barbarian Herblore

After completing the rod fishing section, Otto will share the secret of Barbarian Herblore. By adding roe or caviar (obtained by gutting your leaping fish with a knife) to two-dose potions, you can create barbarian mixes - these deliver the usual potion effects, but also heal Hitpoints as a bonus. Roe covers the lower-level mixes, while caviar is required for the higher-tier ones. A handy way to squeeze a little extra value out of your fishing haul.

Coal Trucks

Larrans small chest in the Wilderness

Just north of the Fishing Guild and west of McGrubor's Wood, the Coal Trucks are now open for business. This mining site features 18 coal rocks (level 30 Mining) and a nifty cart system - mine your coal, dump it into the trucks, and collect it later from the depot at Seers' Village rather than making endless bank runs.

The trucks can hold up to 120 coal at a time.

There's also a log balance shortcut just east of the trucks (level 20 Agility) for a quick hop across towards McGrubor's Wood. Do watch out for the aggressive Giant Bats lurking amongst the coal - they're not fans of company.

Sharp-eyed visitors may also notice a broken-down cannon sitting in a state of disrepair nearby - a hint at things to come. The Dwarf Cannon quest will be arriving in a future update.

Other

  • A new Games Necklace teleport has been added straight to the Barbarian Outpost - perfect for Barbarian Assault, Otto's Grotto, or just showing up to a fight in style.

Music Player

Ever wished MineScape sounded a little more like home? Well, your wish has been granted! We've built an in-game Music Player that streams classic OSRS-style tracks using MIDI and a custom soundfont, all delivered right through Minecraft's audio system.

  • Tracks change automatically based on the region you're exploring, just like the real deal
  • Volume is controlled through Minecraft's standard noteblock sound slider, so you can keep your own playlist running over the top if you'd rather
  • Browse unlocked tracks and replay your favourites at any time

We're looking to add underground tracks, boss themes, and plenty more music in future updates - so if you have a favourite OSRS tune you'd love to hear in MineScape, let us know on Discord!

More Sound Improvements

The audio updates don't stop with the music player. Mobs across MineScape now have dedicated sounds for attacking, defending, and dying, helping combat feel much more lively and giving each encounter a bit more character.

This is part of a broader push to improve sound throughout the game, and a special thanks goes to MasterRiku5 for helping with the mob sounds.

Larran's Chest

A small Larran's Chest has appeared in the low-level Wilderness, giving PKers and PvMers a new way to cash in on those hard-earned Wilderness Slayer keys. Risk vs reward, MineScape style.

Larrans small chest in the Wilderness

Possible Rewards:

  • Coins and noted resources (runes, ores, herbs, seeds)
  • Battlestaves, dragon arrows and other PvM staples
  • A chance at the rare Larran's key drops from your favourite Slayer monsters

Just remember - it's in the Wilderness, so maybe don't bring your best gear on the first run. Or do. We love a good loot tab message.

Slayer Master Rework

From OSRS's recent Slayer sweep-up, the entire system has received a much-needed glow-up. No more juggling a single shared block list every time you want to dabble in Wilderness Slayer and then swap back to your Duradel grind.

Per-Master Block Lists

Every Slayer Master now has their own independent block list. Set up Turael for nuisance-free point boosting, Duradel for max XP/hr, Krystilia for Wilderness only - the world's your oyster.

  • Blocking a task with one master no longer affects the others
  • Trying to block a task a master can't even assign now gives a polite warning instead of vapourising your points
  • Existing block lists have been reset and any spent points are automatically refunded on login

Block prices now scale with the master (matching OSRS):

  • Turael / Spria: 40 points
  • Mazchna: 50 points
  • Vannaka: 60 points
  • Chaeldar: 70 points
  • Konar: 80 points
  • Nieve / Steve: 90 points
  • Duradel / Krystilia: 100 points

Slayer Master UI Refresh

The Slayer Master interface has been completely refreshed. A new View List option lets you see every NPC a master can assign, the quantity, and whether it's available, locked, or blocked - all from a single screen. You can now block tasks directly from this list without waiting to roll one. If you prefer the old "wait and pray" method, that still works too.

  • Green tick - task available to block
  • Red circle - task already blocked
  • Yellow padlock - task this master can't assign
  • Green padlock - your current task

Early-Game Point Buffs

Mazchna and Vannaka were being a bit stingy. New Slayers shouldn't need to spend their first 50 hours Turael-skipping rats just to afford anything in the reward shop:

  • Mazchna - 6 points per task (up from 2). Milestone bonuses: 30 / 90 / 150 / 210 / 300 at 10th / 50th / 100th / 250th / 1000th task
  • Vannaka - 8 points per task (up from 4). Milestone bonuses: 40 / 120 / 200 / 280 / 400 at the same intervals

Reward Unlock Rebalance

Several long-overdue price drops to unlocks that were costing way more than they were worth:

  • Bigger and Badder - 150 → 50 points
  • Task Storage - 1,000 → 500 points (and now usable for Wilderness tasks too)
  • Ring Bling - 300 → 150 points
  • Slug Salter - 80 → 10 points
  • Reptile Freezer - 90 → 10 points

Already unlocked any of these? You'll get the difference refunded on login with a friendly message telling you exactly what came back.

Metal Dragons Task

Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant and Rune dragons have been combined into a single "Metal Dragons" task. One task to rule them all.

  • Default quantity 30-50, extendable up to 150-200
  • Existing individual dragon unlocks/extensions are refunded automatically
  • Existing tasks for any of the old metal dragon types are converted to the new Metal Dragons task on login

Deaths

Tomestone Player Data

Death just got a whole lot less stressful. Tombstones are now saved to your player data, meaning your gravestone (and everything on it) persists even if the server restarts or you log out. No more losing your loot to a server hiccup at the worst possible moment.

On top of that, the last 15 minutes of overall playtime are no longer counted while you're logged out - so your gravestone timer won't tick away when you're offline, giving you a much fairer window to get back to your stuff and reclaim your gear.

Achievements

Some massive milestones to celebrate this update!

  • Zylr has become the first player to reach 200 million experience in Thieving! A truly absurd amount of pockets picked - their dedication has earned them a custom badge that now displays next to their name on the hiscores.
