Welcome back to another exciting MineScape update! We're thrilled to bring you a packed release featuring the classic Clock Tower quest, the long-awaited Dragonfire Shield, a complete set of enchanted crossbow bolts, and a massive collection of combat fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Let's dive right into it!
Clock Tower Quest
The Clock Tower just south of Ardougne has been telling the wrong time for as long as anyone can remember, and poor Brother Kojo has finally given up trying to fix it alone. The Clock Tower quest is now live!
Speak with Brother Kojo at the Clock Tower to begin your search for the four coloured cogs that once powered the great clock. You'll need to explore the dungeon beneath the tower to recover each cog and return it to its rightful spindle. With no combat or skill requirements, this quest is a perfect adventure for players of any level.
Quest Rewards:
- 1 Quest Point
- 500 Coins
Dragonfire Shield
Let's be honest - the Dragonfire Shield has been sitting in the game looking pretty and doing nothing for far too long. That changes today.
Smith the legendary shield by taking your rare Draconic visage and an Anti-dragon shield to an anvil with 90 Smithing, and you'll have one of the best shields in the game!
Charge It Up
Slay dragons and the shield drinks in their fiery breath. The more charges it holds, the stronger it becomes - a fully charged shield is a genuinely fearsome tanky bit of kit, while an empty one is mostly a very expensive paperweight. Right-click the shield in your inventory to activate its special effect, firing a blast of dragonfire at whatever you're about to fight.
Enchanted Crossbow Bolts
The full family of enchanted crossbow bolts has arrived - opal, jade, pearl, topaz, sapphire, emerald, ruby, diamond, dragonstone and onyx, all the way up to dragon bolts. Each effect announces itself with its own unique sound and message at the moment of impact, so you'll know exactly when your ruby bolt just chunked a target's health.
Bolt effects:
- Ruby bolts (e) - Blood Forfeit: 6% chance in PvM (11% in PvP) to deal damage equal to 20% of the target's current Hitpoints (capped at 100), while costing you 10% of your current Hitpoints.
- Jade bolts (e) - Earth's Fury: 6% chance to try to knock players down for 4.8 seconds. In PvP, targets can evade based on Agility, and Protect from Magic can block the effect.
- Dragonstone bolts (e) - Dragon's Breath: 6% chance on a successful hit to add extra dragonfire damage equal to 20% of your visible Ranged level. Won't trigger on dragonfire-immune targets.
- Onyx bolts (e) - Life Leech: 11% chance in PvM (10% in PvP) on a successful hit to deal 20% extra damage and heal you for 25% of damage dealt.
- Topaz bolts (e) - Down to Earth: 4% chance in PvP to drain 1 Magic level from the target.
- Pearl bolts (e) - Sea Curse: 6% chance to add bonus damage based on your visible Ranged level - 1/20 normally or 1/15 against fiery targets.
- Sapphire bolts (e) - Clear Mind: chance to drain the target's Prayer and restore some to you. This procs often in PvM and much less often in PvP.
Player-Owned House
Your chapel has been gathering dust as a decoration. Time to put it to work.
Altars now take bones, and they're generous about it - with experience increasing based on the type of altar, up to two and a half times what burying them would give once gilded altars are finally available. Light the incense burners on either side with a tinderbox and a clean marrentill and each one adds another 50% on top.
Burners need 30 Firemaking to light, stay lit for two minutes, and carry a nice little flame while they burn. Get your bones ready before you light them - the clock doesn't wait.
Banking
The bank search has learned what your items are, not just what they're called.
Alongside a name you can now type a tag - :bow, :ranged, :body, :stackable - and mix the two freely. rune :body turns up your rune chestpieces, :ranged :body every ranged chestpiece you own, and :bow finds the lot no matter what each one happens to be called. Tags narrow as you add them, so pile them on until you've found the thing.
Tags cover the weapon type, the slot it goes in, the skills it asks for, and a few useful properties. A skill tag means the item needs that level - so :ranged is your dragonhide and your bows, not every weapon that happens to have a defensive stance.
The colon is doing the work here, and plain words are matched as one run of text rather than one at a time, so it's worth seeing both halves of that:
rune :body- your rune chestpieces, chainbody and platebody both, trims included:body- every chestpiece you own, whatever it happens to be made ofrune- everything with rune in the name, your runes along with your armourrune plate- platebody, platelegs and plateskirt, because those two words sit next to each other in the namebody- the Body rune, and not one chestpiece. Without the colon it is just a namerune body- nothing at all, because no item is actually called "rune body". This is the one that catches people out: you wantrune :body
The same tags work wherever you search for an item, so the Grand Exchange buy screen and /items understand them too - handy when you know the sort of thing you want but not what it's called. /items also lists an item's tags right on it, so you can see what a thing counts as before you go hunting for more of the same.
Two new bank actions have joined the list as well:
- Collect Exchange empties your Grand Exchange slots straight into the bank - the coins from your sales and the items from your buys - with no trip to a clerk. Anything that won't fit stays safely in its slot
- Bank Actions opens every action in one list, so the two buttons at the bottom of your bank stop being the ceiling. Click one, or press 1-9
As ever, shift right-click a bank action button to change which action sits there.
Skill Guides
The skill guides have received a major overhaul this update:
- Magic now has a skill guide of its own, and the Ranged guide has been expanded to include all of its armour
- The Dragonfire Shield recipe has been added to the Smithing guide
- The Fishing guide now shows the correct requirements for barehanded and barbarian fishing, including the training you'll need from Otto Godblessed before you can start
- Opening a skill guide no longer interrupts your current action, so you can check a recipe without stopping what you're doing
Level Ups, Music & Sound
Levelling up should feel like something, so:
- Combat levels now announce themselves properly, jingle and all, playing politely after your skill jingle rather than over the top of it
- Chain a few levels together off one big experience drop, and the level-up dialogues now queue up instead of trampling each other
- Antifire potions tick down audibly and fade out when they expire, so you get a moment's warning before the dragon in front of you becomes a much bigger problem
- Running out of prayer now sounds as disappointing as it feels
- Music follows you through teleports instead of stubbornly staying behind
Monster Attributes
Every monster now carries its proper attributes straight from the wiki - demon, dragon, undead, spectral, fiery and friends - instead of the server guessing from names. That guesswork had real consequences, and fixing it comes with some genuinely new toys:
- Silverlight and Darklight finally live up to their reputation, striking 60% harder against demons. That covers everything demonic - including a few you might not expect, like bloodvelds, hellhounds and waterfiends
- Crumble Undead now works! Level 39 Magic, hits up to 15, and only bites what's already dead - skeletons, zombies, ghosts and shades. Cast it at anything living and it'll tell you off
- Enchanted bolt effects and the dragonfire shield now judge their targets by what they truly are, not what they're called
Quality of Life
Quality of life updates & fixes that deserve a callout in this update:
- Punching now happens at fist speed, not at the speed of the bow you're holding but not using
- A hit that lands never rolls a zero any more
- Dharok's set effect now applies at the right moment, which makes it hit rather harder than it has been
- Drops go to whoever did the most damage, not whoever happened to get the last hit in - no more sniping
- The Wilderness keeps your secrets. Your world is now hidden from your friends list and from chat while you're out there, so nobody can hop over and hunt you down
- Eniola at the Ourania altar will happily take his bank fee straight out of your rune pouch
- Double XP voting no longer locks you out in the hour before a Double XP weekend. Your hour fills the gap, then the weekend takes over
- Charged jewellery - dodgy necklaces, rings of recoil, rings of forging - can now be broken with shift right-click to reset the charges
- Water pours freely between buckets, vials, bowls and jugs, and cups can be filled and emptied
- Bonemeal has had a once-over: untradeable, emptyable, and properly described
- Alchemy and shop prices now come from the same place, so the two can never quietly disagree again
Icons & Chat
You may have noticed our skill and item icons being a bit too available - they lived alongside real characters, which meant they could be pasted anywhere, and left anyone chatting in Chinese staring at a wall of tiny swords.
That's been sorted. Icons now live somewhere sensible, and you can drop them into chat by typing codes like :attack: or :strength: instead. Pop open /icons and click one to grab its code.
Mod API
The MineScape Mod API has received a batch of new events this update, giving client-side mods much more of the game to work with:
- Farming - your plots are sent on login with what's planted and time to next growth, and a planted event fires whenever a plot is seeded
- Combat - mob attack and defence events, including the attack style used and the damage taken
- Item use - an event whenever the player consumes an item or potion
- Actions - track when the player, or other players around them, starts, cancels or finishes a skilling action, and how long a started action should take
As always, the complete documentation and examples can be found at https://github.com/AshleyThew/minescape-mod-api.
To see the new additions in action, check out Zylr's MineScape Addons - a great showcase of what the API makes possible, and a perfect starting point for anyone looking to build a mod of their own.
